Change a child's life
Torbay Council has the responsibility to look after children that cannot live with their birth parents. We care about the children we look after and ensure they are at the heart of everything we do.
The process to adopt is now simpler as from the point that we accept your Registration of Interest this should take no longer than six months. We will help you through every step of the process to adopt, as well as providing a good support network once you have adopted a child.
We have particularly strong links with other adoption agencies based in Devon (Devon County Council and Plymouth City Council) and we work together to find the best placements for children within the county.
We are also part of the Adopt South West partnership, which is a partnership between Devon and Plymouth Council, Barnardos and Families For Children. This partnership was set up to raise awareness about adoption and to help you, potential adopters, make an informed decision about which agency, or agencies, can help you.
We are also part of the South West Adoption Consortium (SWAC) which is made up of all the regional adoption agencies across the South West. We place Torbay children who need adoptive families with SWAC, and national adopters.
As a local authority we are not-for-profit, we simply want to find a loving caring home for our children and give you the support you need to provide that. We offer a service for people who are considering adopting a child, whether or not they live in the Torbay area.
Whether you’re just starting the process, waiting for a placement, or looking for post-adoption resources you can come along and meet us at one of our information meetings. Our events are a great way to find out more about adoption.
We have a dedicated team of very experienced social workers and community care workers based in Torquay who are available to answer your questions. Please contact us on 01803 207870.
